Benefits of Training with a Medicine Ball
Using a medicine ball offers a range of benefits that can significantly improve your physical health:
- Enhanced Muscle Power: Regular training with a weighted exercise ball helps in developing muscle power, crucial for improving performance in sports and daily activities.
- Improved Core Strength: Many medicine ball exercises require core engagement and stabilization, leading to improved core strength and stability.

- Versatility: A weighted ball can be used for a wide array of exercises that target different parts of the body, making it a highly versatile tool for full-body workouts.
Choosing the Right Medicine Ball
Selecting the appropriate medicine ball for your workouts is crucial to ensure effectiveness and prevent injuries. Here’s how to choose the right one:
Weight
The weight of the medicine ball should align with your physical capabilities and the nature of your exercises. Beginners should start with a lighter ball, typically between 4 to 6 pounds, and gradually increase the weight as their strength improves.
Material
Medicine balls come in various materials, including rubber, leather, and vinyl. Choose a material based on where you plan to use the ball and your personal preference. Rubber balls are ideal for bouncing exercises, while leather and vinyl are better for exercises that require gripping the ball.
Size
The size of the weighted ball should correspond to its weight and the type of exercises you plan to perform. Smaller balls are generally easier to handle and are better suited for dynamic throwing and catching exercises.
Effective Exercises with a Medicine Ball
Incorporate these exercises into your routine to maximize the benefits of your weighted exercise ball:
Medicine Ball Slams
This full-body exercise is excellent for building power and releasing stress. It involves lifting the ball overhead and then forcefully slamming it down to the ground.
Russian Twists
Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat. Hold the medicine ball with both hands at chest level, and lean back slightly. Rotate your torso to the right, touching the ball to the floor beside you. Repeat on the left side. This is great for the obliques and overall core strength.
Wall Balls
A fantastic exercise for improving cardiovascular fitness and muscle endurance. Stand a few feet from a solid wall, hold the medicine ball at chest level, and perform a squat. As you rise from the squat, throw the ball up against the wall, catch it, and immediately go into the next squat.
Plank Pass
Start in a plank position with the medicine ball under one hand. Pass the ball under your chest to the other hand by rolling it across the floor. This exercise increases core stability and strength.
Maintaining Your Medicine Ball
To ensure longevity and safety, it’s important to maintain your medicine ball properly:
- Regular Inspection: Check for any signs of wear and tear before and after use.
- Clean Regularly: Wipe the ball with a suitable cleaner to remove dirt and sweat.
- Proper Storage: Store the ball in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent damage.

Let’s start by letting everyone know I’ve been in the fitness industry for almost 20yrs, worked in gyms and been a personal trainer for many years as well as fitness enthusiast so I know good gym quality. If you are looking for commercial quality then lol no further as this product is for you!
Adam –
It’s a heavy ball. Seems indestructible. That’s all you really need to know. I’m not sure how you can give this ball anything but five stars. Like, what were you expecting? Anyway, this ball is good to toss to unsuspecting people. Like your wife. They will struggle catching it and it’s funny. They won’t see the humor in it but you will. Although I’ve never tried it, you could probably leave it in your front yard by the sidewalk and wait for some punk kid to come along and try to boot it down the street. Pretty sure it won’t go very far and the kid prob won’t go along kicking random objects for fun anymore. So right there are two pretty good uses for this product. You can also excercise with it. End review. Thank you.
Manley –
These medicine balls bounce with ease. They will work best for slam ball workouts. The ball is textured and it is easy to hold; there is no slipping during workouts. Stable construction and no signs of damage after several uses.
Melanie –
these balls offer a surprisingly tough and fatiguing upper body workout. A ten-pound ball – roughly the weight and size of a gallon of milk – is a great way to build on a strength and fitness program.
Todd –
With a new baby I found myself doing a lot of upper body exercises while holding my little one. While this is a great upper body and potentially full body workout, I found the baby to be a little too squirmy to be effective so I decided to pick up this medicine ball. It was a great choice. It’s grippy, compact, and effective. It also doesn’t have a tendency to spit up on me while doing chest presses which is a big plus. Best part – this ball doesn’t complain if I accidentally drop it.
Austin –
Great ball. It does bounce. Been slamming it in the grass leaving a big crater. Great fun!
